Split Classes

Dear Parents,

In the interest of providing the best education for all students at Scoil Phádraig, it may from time to time be necessary to divide and combine class groups into mixed classes.

When planning the classes for the coming school year, I have looked at the overall numbers in each year group and the number of teachers available to teach them. I have consulted with the teachers and the Board of Management when making the decision how best to organise the classes.

In the coming school year the pupils of XYZ will be divided.

The criteria used in the division of the class are age and gender based. (i.e. The older half of the class will be grouped with Fourth Class and the younger half will be with Second Class. If age based grouping meant that only one boy or girl was with either half, then the next boy or girl nearest in age would be included in their group – this has not been necessary, however). This is the fairest and most transparent approach.

When dividing a class into groups, to be placed in separate classes;

It is considered best to form mixed-ability groups.

The process of forming new friendships is a life skill that is important to develop. A positive attitude and supporting attitude from parents is a key element in achieving a successful outcome in the new groups.

It will seldom be possible to satisfy all demands for groups of friends to be kept together.

XYZ will be teaching XYZ class and XYZ will be teaching XYZ class. The teachers have been and will continue to work very closely in their planning and throughout the coming year.

________________________ is in the younger half of the class and will be grouped with XYZ Class for the coming school year.
